Project

North Bridge will provide a safe above grade facility for crossing Routes 9/10/12 at this important location.

Currently, pedestrians, bicyclists and others dart out across Routes 9/10/12 over two lanes of high speed traffic and entry/exist ramps looking for gaps in the traffic. This is extremely dangerous and unsafe.

To completely eliminate this problem and to maximize use of the existing rail trail infrastructure, an ADA-complaint bridge spanning the highway needs to be constructed at this location.

People required to use wheel chairs (manual or powered) or ADA-approved scooters will now have access to both sides of 9/10/12 without a motor vehicle.

North Bridge will also safely connect destinations inside the bypass, such as Keene State College, Colony Mill Marketplace, and downtown Keene with the growing residential areas of West Keene and the regional trail system.

North Bridge will provide a safe access to destinations in West Keene such as the Keene High School, Wheelock Park, and the soon to be constructed YMCA.

North Bridge will be standing for the next 150 years. It is expected that as the price of fuel increases it will be popular in the future to park in a shopping area on one side of 9/10/12 and walk to the shopping center on the other side (instead of hopping in your car and driving there as you do today).

PFK actively supports the North Bridge project and delivered $52,000 to the City in August 2009 for the project. PFK delivered an additional $48,000 to the City on July 7, 2011 bringing their total contribution up to $100,000 for the project.

PFK acknowledges that its payments were the direct result of the generosity of the more than 156 sponsors and contributors who each made a substantial contribution to this project.
